Deliveries
Passenger elevators were designed solely for transporting building tenants and their guests to and from their office. For this reason, all deliveries, other than small hand-carried objects, are restricted to the loading dock freight elevator. In rare instances, when passenger elevators are to be used for freight handling, padded mats will be installed by the tenant?s contractor to protect the walls and finish of the car.
Specifically, building regulations prohibit all deliveries and inter-floor activities on passenger elevators which require the use of hand-trucks or two-or four-wheeled carts such as mail carts, as well as movement of bulky objects regardless of how they are carried. In addition, construction personnel are required to use the freight elevator for all inter-floor movement as a means of controlling dust and debris and elevator damage.
Firms involved in moving furniture and equipment must file a Certificate of Insurance with the Building Office before freight elevator service can be scheduled. Contact the Building Office for the required format of the certificate.
Messengers
In an effort to better secure the building and provide a safer work place, a Messenger Center is located in the cellar and is accessible through the 54th Street Loading Dock. They can be contacted at (212) 265-8294 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The Messenger Center maintains a tracking system that records each inbound and outbound package and can provide time/date stamp information as to when and whom signed for the package. Only messengers employed by the Messenger Center are allowed to make deliveries/pick-ups within the building. All outside messengers must report to the Messenger Center to pick up or drop off packages. US Mail, Federal Express, UPS, Airborne Express, etc. are the only exceptions and will be provided unrestricted access within the building.
Food Deliveries
All food deliveries must be personally picked up in the building lobby. If a tenant has a catering service arriving to set up for a meeting with numerous food platters, coffee urns, etc., the caterer will be directed to the Messenger Center, and a messenger will escort the caterer to the floor.
